Fulfillment Pricing: find a 3PL that actually fits
Fulfillment pricing is a bundle of separate charges for receiving, storage, picking, packaging, shipping, and extras, and every provider structures that bundle a little differently. Understanding the parts is the only way to know what you will really pay each month.
What makes fulfillment pricing hard
Receiving can be billed per pallet, per carton, per unit, or per hour. Storage can be billed per pallet, per bin, or per cubic foot. Picking may include the first item and charge for each additional one. Two quotes can describe the same work in completely different terms.
Packaging, labels, inserts, and dunnage are sometimes included and sometimes billed separately. Account management fees, integration fees, and monthly minimums can also sit outside the main rate card.
Shipping is usually the largest cost, and it depends on carrier rates, package dimensions, and how far each order travels. A low fulfillment fee paired with expensive postage still produces a high total.
What we vet fulfillment pricing providers for
When we compare pricing, FulfillYN checks every line of each quote and runs your actual order history through it to show the true monthly cost.
- We convert each quote into the same set of line items for receiving, storage, picking, packaging, and shipping.
- We model your recent orders against every rate card to estimate the real monthly total.
- We list fees outside the rate card, including minimums, setup, and account charges.
- We compare shipping costs on your actual package weights and dimensions.
- We flag terms that allow pricing to change during the contract.
What to look for in fulfillment pricing
We normalize every quote to identical line items and model them against your order history so comparison is apples to apples.
FulfillYN is a 3PL matchmaking service. We are not a directory, a broker, or a 3PL ourselves — we interview your operation, translate it into a clean requirements brief, and hand-match you with vetted fulfillment providers who can actually do the work.
How we handle fulfillment pricing differently
We already know the shortlist
We run this search every week, so we know which providers can genuinely handle this work and which ones only say they can.
Weeks, not months
Doing it alone means three months of cold outreach and repeating the same intake a dozen times. One application with us replaces all of it.
Quotes you can compare
We normalize every proposal to the same line items, so the cheapest headline rate can't hide the most expensive monthly bill.
Vetted, not listed
We are not a directory. Every provider is checked on facilities, systems, insurance, and references before you ever meet them.
What every provider passes first
- Facility walkthrough: racking, climate, dock capacity, and real available space
- Systems: WMS platform, integration depth, inventory accuracy, and reporting
- Insurance and certifications appropriate to your product category
- Live client references at a comparable volume and order profile
- Capacity headroom, so you aren't their largest account on day one
Fulfillment Pricing: common questions
What is a typical cost per order for fulfillment?
It varies widely with items per order, package size, and destination. Our fulfillment cost calculator gives a market estimate range, and real quotes narrow it for your business.
Why is storage pricing so different between providers?
Providers measure storage differently and price by location and building type. Normalizing to the space your inventory actually occupies makes the comparison fair.
Can fulfillment pricing be negotiated?
Often yes, particularly with volume commitments or a well documented scope. A clear brief helps providers price confidently rather than padding for unknowns.
